We hear and know constantly of persons going to Florida, California, Minnesota, or some other well recommended locality where they live long.
A list of the persons who were born in the last century who reside near here, are a living attestation of the health and life giving qualities of the town of Tompkins. The pure air, pare water, and amount of “health lifts” required to earn a living in this little valley of the Delaware in results will compare fairly with the record of any region of the same number of inhabitants.
Living in this village and within four miles from here in different directions, are eighteen persons over 80 years of age, some of them natives of the town, several have lived here over 50 years and nearly all over 25 years.
The names of this class of 80 year olds and over are:
Benj. Lane, Abram Miller, Thomas Durfee, David Webster Josiah Gregory, John Foulds, N. Quackenboss, Luke Cradal, Mrs. Elsie Durfee, Mrs. Mary Kelsey, Mrs. Lucy Rose, Mrs. Betsey Goodrich, Mrs. Fanny Grant, Mrs. Moses Warner, Mrs. Jane Sprague, Mrs. Susan Lane, Mrs. Ann Constable and Miss Polly Hart.
Within four years Mrs. and Mrs. Ezra Hong have died in this village. They were both near 90, and within a year Mrs. Anthony Constable, and Des. Elisha Boyd have died; they were both over 80.
Of the class of 70 there are a large number, some of whom, are so well preserved and socially situated perhaps they would not like to tell their age. — Cannonsville Cor. of Deposit Courier.
